Good things start in the in-between

About a month ago, life finally started to slow down. I’d just walked out of my final Uni exam for the year, work was winding down towards the Christmas holidays, and my Year 12 tutees were off sunning themselves on the beach—much deserved after tackling the HSC.
In this quiet moment, I found myself asking, what now?
So, I sat down—opened my laptop—and began. A website, a logo, a business name, and a concept started to take shape. And just like that, Drift came together.
For Year 12 students or recent graduates, these in-between moments are vital. It's an opportunity to ask: What can I do now that my future self will thank me for? Maybe it’s drafting a study plan that feels sustainable. Perhaps it’s revisiting past mistakes to strengthen weaknesses. Or maybe it’s simply finding a rhythm that allows for rest and progress—because both are equally important.
The in-between isn’t wasted time. It’s preparation time. It’s where the groundwork is laid so you can hit your next milestone with confidence and momentum. Use this time to take those first small steps, experiment, and build systems that will carry you through.
So, as I potter away at my desk—while a summer thunderstorm rolls in—I encourage you to think about what you can reinvent in 2025.
For Year 12 students, recent graduates, or anyone heading towards their next adventure, the in-between isn’t where we stop. It’s where we pause, reflect, and then begin again.
