Our Drift Tuition Team - What I Have Learnt

A year ago, Drift Tuition was just me—juggling uni, work, and tutoring in between. I was writing feedback, creating lesson plans from scratch, and figuring things out as I went.
Today, Drift is something much bigger. We’re a team of six, supporting students across different stages of their HSC journeys. And with that growth came a new challenge: learning how to lead and support a team while keeping our mission front and centre—helping students feel more confident, capable, and clear in their learning.
What I’ve Learned Since Building Drift
1. People and Systems Are SO Important
Working with people—whether it’s tutors, students, or families—has shown me that emotional intelligence matters just as much as organisation. Systems keep things running and real connections are what make learning meaningful. Listening, adapting, and communicating clearly have become non-negotiables.
2. You Can’t (and Shouldn’t) Do It All Alone
When you're building something from the ground up, it’s easy to feel like you have to carry it all. But I’ve learned that the real magic happens when you trust others, let go of perfection, and allow people to bring their strengths to the table. That’s when growth becomes sustainable—and a lot more rewarding.
3. Resources Change the Game
One of the biggest shifts we’ve made is building a strong bank of resources for our tutors and students. It started with simple templates in Google Docs, but it brought clarity and consistency to everything we do. New tutors now get onboarded faster, and students get tools that actually work because they’re designed with their learning in mind.
4. Growth Doesn’t Always Look Like Progress
Some weeks are full of wins: new enquiries, breakthroughs, and glowing feedback. Others feel slow or uncertain. But I’ve realised progress doesn’t always look linear and that’s okay. What matters is showing up, learning, and continuing to build.
What This Means for You
Running Drift has given me a fresh perspective, not just on business, but on what students really need to succeed. And the lessons I’ve learned as a tutor and team leader are the same ones we try to pass on to every student we work with:
You’re not meant to do this alone. Whether it’s essays, exams, or just staying motivated—we’ve got your back.
Consistency beats cramming. Some weeks feel slow, but every step adds up. Just like Drift didn’t grow overnight, neither does academic confidence.
Having a system helps. Our resources—from essay structures to feedback templates—are designed to take the stress out of study and make things click.
People matter. The right tutor, mentor, or support system can completely change how you see your potential.
At Drift, we’re not here to push perfection. We’re here to support progress—with strategies that work, feedback that makes sense, and a team who cares.
If you’re looking for someone in your corner for the HSC or secondary studies—we’d love to be that for you.
